First Time Owning a PRESTAN® Manikin?

Common Questions & Helpful Tips and Tricks

Manikins made by PRESTAN are the practical choice for those who are passionate about saving lives. PRESTAN’s ability to balance function and price is one of the many reasons why here at MCR Medical, we carry PRESTAN Manikins exclusively.

If this is your first time owning a PRESTAN manikin, you may have some questions upon receiving your manikin(s):

“Where are the feedback devices in the manikin?”

“Why do I not hear the ‘clicking’ sound while performing compressions?”

“Why are the red lights on my manikin’s CPR rate monitor blinking?”

“Why is there a rattling in the chest of the manikin?”

“Why do my lung bags have holes in them?”

If you have found yourself asking these questions, don’t worry! You are not alone. MCR Medical is here to help. We want to ensure that our customers feel comfortable and confident when training students using PRESTAN Manikins.

Below, we have also included some helpful tips and tricks for first time PRESTAN Manikin owners, as well as the answers to some frequently asked questions.

“Where are the feedback devices in the manikin?”

In the PRESTAN Adult Professional Series Manikin, the rate monitor feedback device is located in the back of the shoulder area. Child Manikin rate monitors are in the same place.

The Infant Manikin rate monitor is located in the diaper area of the manikin and can be accessed by using a butter knife or flathead screwdriver to gently pop off the white monitor cover.

PRESTAN Manikins feature a clicking mechanism that indicates correct compression depth to students and instructors with an audible CLICK. The clicker itself is located in the chest cavity of the Adult, Child, and Infant Manikins.

“Why do I not hear the ‘clicking’ sound while performing compressions?”

First, please make sure that your manikin is on the floor, instead of a table, while performing compressions. These manikins are designed to be realistic, so you may find yourself having to use a bit more force than needed with other manikins. You will hear the ‘click’ when you push the plate down 2 inches.

“Why are the red lights on my manikin’s CPR rate monitor blinking?”

When you first compress the chest of the manikin, all of the rate monitor lights will illuminate, followed by the red light blinking for up to 10 minutes to indicate that the manikin is ready and functioning properly. This is totally normal, and you can go ahead and start compressions at any time.

“Why is there a rattling in the chest of the manikin?”

The rattling that you are hearing is the full compression assembly moving around inside of the chest cavity of the manikin. There is a little extra room in the chest cavity of the manikin to allow the clicking device to compress and recoil properly. If this is your first time owning PRESTAN manikins, we can absolutely see why this noise would raise concerns but fear not! This is perfectly normal.

“Why do my lung bags have holes in them?”

The hole is in the neck of the Adult, Child, and Ultralite Lung Bags by design. The hole is there to help with deflation after breaths are administered. However, the Infant lung bags do not have this hole.
